The Withdrawal:
An incident of great shame and embarrassment for all regions of the world. Whilst The Disputed Lands have never been truly tamed, for the longest of times there was a presence there keeping the dark forces of the world in check, coffers full and food flooded back to the continent.
As the Disputed Lands had finally began to become civilised and a grand city was constructed called Salvation further cementing in that these wilds were tamed. In defence of Salvation a row of forts were constructed. Referred to by varying names by folks from varying parts of the world but is most commonly referred to as ‘The Line’. These forts spanned the width of these lands were the pride of all the peoples of Tellus and gave invaluable service in the containment of threats. It was a truly beautiful alliance of all good races when times were simpler and the lands ruled by the just and righteous. Unfortunately when times seem the most safe and folks become complacent, evil things lurking in the shadows erupt forth.
It began with a series of deaths. No one knows quite what happened although many have offered their own theories but figures of power and nobility began to fall ill, each person's symptoms were different and there was no common cause that could be established. These deaths caused massive power vacuums that the greedy and self important lunged to claim resulting in civil war and battles between former allies as friends turned on friends in their personal quest for gold and position. These troubles at home frayed the stability of the relationships between the garrisons of The Line as garrison leaders named themselves King, Queens and other perfidious titles and took the forts that they had sworn to defend as their royal seats.
The worst of all occurred at Salvation. The only land where all races lived hand in hand with each other was slowly infected akin to pus in a wound. It came as a bellow. Salvation had only meagre defences, low walls, few troops and no war machines as they had always relied upon The Line for protection. Endless hordes of untold horrors swarmed the city killing, eating and torturing all those in their path as they set about returning the city to the dirt. These dark forces however chose a strange action that scholars and philosophers alike have pondered over, they left only one child alive to tell the tale to the mainland. As a warning or a threat is still pondered to this day but the message was clear, the disputed lands were theres and they wouldn’t be pushed out again.
